While planning for the first surprise party, which was 2 days ahead of his bday, was wondering how to make 30th equally surprising… Plan was to spring a series of surprises starting 27th March. Succeeded we did:) Here’s how…
Given the people in Gop’s life, I can easily plan for multiple parties through the month!:) So, next lot to spring a surprise was our office gang. Initially, while brainstorming Devi had suggested that for 3 of us (Devi, GRB, and I) would ring the door bell if not at 12 a little earlier. While we were pondering over this idea, it stuck me that having all other friends as part would make it even more surprising for him and also to have Sangee involved… So, the next planning began – all of us gather at my place on 29th eve and go visiting him later! Our first challenge was to evade Gops calling us out for lunch or dinner on the 29th eve; more than this, the challenge was to have Ramesh’s mouth shut and not to give away our secret! That’s quiet a big mouth to keep shut and he did try opening it up a few times! :)
We were 10 of us from office on that eve and 5 of us to stay back till 12! With this final, our next plan was to plan for food. Kudos to Sangee, I must say! She volunteered to cook food for all on her own… Next, I find myself in my favorite hangout ‘rest room’ discussing menu :) More than the cooking experience what we both enjoyed was the ideas to hide it from Gops! How does she do it without him realizing anything when he reaches home, and till the time we don’t reach! First thought was for us to reach a little early and help her – but rather not because we might get stuck anywhere! So, next idea was how to hide the prepared food :) Next door neighbor? Fridge? Underneath shelves? Ha ha! Sangee chose the last 2 options and had most of the things ready by the time we reached. And, thankfully her plan worked out fine! He didn’t manage to guess anything! Though, as he said later, he was expecting something to happen probably a couple of us would drop in kinds...
So, with the food plans in place, next was to get the group arrive on time and with the other key essentials – cake, snacks, gifts, etc etc – In parallel, me & Prassi (another close friend from Germany) had some gifts planned for him and the one to be given that special night was a crazy gift “toilet paper wrapped as a gift” – ha ha something crazy for an equally crazy person! So, armed with everything, we decided to invade his abode! We had to rush because we had two warning signals from Sangee that he might anytime ask for dinner :) Bang we go…. And ofcourse you should have seen him then! Yet to recover from 27th March, this one came on him early :) but as usual he did recover soon and then on we went to party till early 30th March:)
When we said ‘bye, gud nite’, did we hear a sigh of relief?:) Hey wait man, that was not all – ‘you have the day yet to come’ was our thought ;) Yup, next day 7 am, he heard the door bell and found a beautiful bouquet awaiting him:) I had asked for Roses and few Lilies and the florist did an awesome work!
What next? Definitely he would have thought that at that moment! True to that, next I had the ‘saner’ gifts lined up for him from me & Prassi.
Then, we thought it was time for us to go to office and do some work! No running away from reality you see! And we had to go because had our impending Lunch treat from him @ Barbeque Nation. A nice place worth the penny! Don’t miss it!
Reaching BN, we ordered food and like well-behaved people were eating our way to glory! Bang came in Karthick, another nutty friend:) For sure, he took us all by surprise when he walked in with one big Rose Garland!ha ha! So, the bday boy was garlanded and given the last gift : team’s gift! Probably then his thought was ‘now, enough guys! Cant take anymore’ ;)
That was it! Each moment is gone when the next moment is born but the good thing is we all are gifted to hold on to such beautiful / memorable moments; This blog is just an attempt to give these memories a longer lifetime or probably a chance to relive while reading it:)Have a rocking year ahead Gops!
