I begin with a heart-felt thanks to Mysskin for directing and presenting to us a world-class movie in Tamil. I am glad to see many others joining me in saying ‘Nandalala’, is more than a ‘movie’ – it’s an ‘Experience’.
It’s a journey of two, a school kid and a mentally challenged adult from an asylum, in search of their moms. A journey that we choose to travel along right from the titling of the movie! That’s the sheer power of the Director – Hats off Mysskin!
The ‘WOW' factors:
Strong Screenplay – director’s confidence in his story well translated as a smooth and strong screenplay – nearly flawless!
Equally strong BGM – director’s wise choice of maestro for the movie… Illaiyaraja once again has excelled in his forte, BGM – a special thanks to Mysskin for bringing us back our mottai!
Another pillar of strength is Mahesh’s camera – great cinematography – soft and subtle as required for the feel of the movie!
Apt and smart use of silence, sharp & humor interwoven dialogs, twists to anticipated events – the factors that hold ‘us’ through the slow pace of the movie (not many can appreciate such pace, especially Indian audience!)
Excellent Editing – pat on the back for the editor and the director for ensuring a smooth flow through the movie (similar to the river flowing title shot). Not a single scene seems a misfit or unwanted!
Strong Characterizations – Every role / character in the movie convey a feeling/message, and strengthen the flow of the movie. All are intertwined by one emotion for one person in their life – ‘mom’!
Flawless Acting – Each and every artist performed their best - mainly - Mysskin - the ‘surprise package’ – he lived the role; Snighda – for a first movie, she has excelled in a short but powerful role; the man with the disabled legs, nasir, rohini…
Obviously the strengths of the movie won over a few weaknesses- the casting for the kid’s role & for a girl in a village who helps them drive by – surprisingly, I can only list these two! (** I did expect mottai to go a little beyond but that’s my expectation from him given his work so far!)
It's a journey for your eyes, ears, and soul : a journey you would continue to travel & admire, even after the protagonists reach their destination!
Some of the movies seen offlate that I would rate as equally classy: Anbesivam, kanathil muthamital, Taare Zammen Par, Three Idiots – while all of these are commercially-inclined movies, Nandalala took my heart with no commercial elements in it!
Please Watch 'Nandalala' & in Theaters – its worth the money!
