Browsing through a Tamil magazine ‘Mangaiyyar Malar (June
2011)’, I happened to read an interesting writeup. Short & Sweet but it had
a meaningful, strong message for each one of us! I have tried to re-capture the
same here in English. Read on…
A daughter meets up her mom and is sharing her daily life…
problem with kid, hard to make husband understand, hard to do this…etc. Mom
listens and realizes that daughter shares only her woes and difficulty facing
it… So, when her daughter asks for a cup of tea, she takes three bowls of water
to boil: one with carrot, second with eggs, and third with tea dust /leaf. This
leaves her daughter wondering… After a few mts, mom places all three end
products in front of her daughter and says:
- Carrot
– after boiling, becomes softer both inside & outside
- Eggs
– after boiling, the inside becomes soft and can be broken
- Tea
– after boiling, just mingles with the water and gives an aromatic drink…
If we treat ‘Water’ as the ‘Problems / challenges of life’,
then our attitude towards these problems (how we want to face the same) can
be chosen from being a Carrot, Egg, or Tea.
- Like
a carrot, you can allow the problem to walk over you and weaken you
completely. – OR –
- Like
an egg, you can end up being seemingly tougher at the outset but weaken internally. – OR –
- Like
tea, you can emerge to be a stronger person with renewed self, learning,
courage to face life etc –without loosing yourself.
So, ‘your attitude’ towards life can make all the difference!
